TimberTech Deck Installation in Austin: AZEK PVC & Composite

TimberTech deck installation in Austin is the process of building outdoor decks using TimberTech AZEK PVC or capped composite boards. We install Advanced PVC, Composite, and Vintage lines with engineered framing and hidden fastener systems for long-term Texas performance.

TimberTech sits in an interesting spot in the deck materials market. The brand spans both capped composite and full PVC, which means homeowners have access to two genuinely different products under one umbrella. The AZEK PVC line in particular has become a favorite for Austin homeowners who want the lowest possible maintenance and the best heat performance composite can offer.

We’ve been building decks across Austin since 2008, and we install TimberTech to its published installation requirements. PVC expands and contracts more aggressively than capped composite, so end-gap calculation gets even more important. Our team walks every TimberTech client through the differences before material selection so you know what you’re choosing.

TimberTech Product Lines We Install

TimberTech organizes its decking into three lines, and we install all of them. TimberTech AZEK is PVC, with no wood content, and suits spots that see heavy sun or moisture. TimberTech PRO and TimberTech EDGE are capped composite, with EDGE as the more budget-friendly option. Our crew checks joist spacing, connections, flashing and drainage before any TimberTech board goes down. Comparing brands? See our composite deck options.

TimberTech splits its catalog into two main families with distinct material chemistry. The right choice depends on heat exposure, budget, and how natural a wood grain look you’re after.

TimberTech AZEK (PVC)

AZEK Advanced PVC and Vintage is the flagship line and the highest-performing product TimberTech makes. It’s full PVC, not a wood-composite blend, which means zero organic content and no chance of moisture-driven swelling or rot. It runs cooler than most capped composites in direct sun, holds color better in long-term UV exposure, and the texture options replicate exotic hardwoods convincingly. We recommend AZEK for full-sun decks, pool surrounds, and homeowners planning to stay in the home long-term.

TimberTech PRO (Composite)

Reserve and Legacy collections give you the visual character of AZEK at a more accessible price. It’s capped polymer over a wood-composite core, with grain depth that compares favorably to other premium composites. Heat performance is good, color retention is strong, and the warranty matches the higher-tier lines on fade and stain. It’s a solid choice for shaded backyards and second-story decks.

TimberTech EDGE (Composite)

Prime+ is the volume seller in the composite family. The cap is durable and the warranty’s identical to the higher tiers, but the texture and color options are simpler. We’re upfront about the visual difference. For some clients Prime+ delivers everything they want at a comfortable budget. For others, the texture upgrade in Reserve or Legacy is worth the small step up.

Our TimberTech Installation Process

PVC and composite each have specific install requirements. We follow manufacturer specs closely and add our own protocols for Texas heat conditions. Our broader deck installation framework adapts the sequence by material, not just by client preference.

  • Joist spacing per TimberTech spec: 12-inch centers for diagonal patterns, 16-inch for straight runs
  • Treated lumber substructure with continuous joist tape and proper ledger flashing
  • Footings drilled 24 to 36 inches deep for Austin’s clay soil, with bell-bottom footings on grade transitions
  • Hidden fastener systems (CONCEALoc or compatible) on the field, color-matched screws on perimeter and stair treads
  • End-gap spacing calculated for the install temperature, particularly critical for AZEK PVC which moves more than composite
  • Final walkthrough, fastener tightness check, and registration of the manufacturer warranty in the homeowner’s name

Why Austin Homeowners Choose Us for TimberTech

We’ve completed over 200 deck projects across the Austin metro since launching, and TimberTech makes up a meaningful share of our composite work. Every job’s fully insured, including general liability and workers’ compensation. We don’t claim to be licensed because Texas doesn’t license deck builders. What we do offer is a 1-year workmanship warranty in writing, separate from the TimberTech manufacturer fade and stain coverage you’ll receive on the boards themselves.

Permits are handled through trusted third-party partners. We coordinate the City of Austin submission, plan review, and inspection scheduling so you don’t have to. Permit fees are passed through at cost with no markup. Reach out through our contact page or call 512-566-7519 to schedule a consultation.

TimberTech Decks Across the Austin Metro

Austin’s heat is what tilts a lot of homeowners toward TimberTech AZEK specifically. PVC runs cooler than capped composite, and on a south-facing deck in August that difference is something you’ll feel underfoot. We measure surface temperature on completed decks during the hottest weeks of the year so we can give clients real numbers when they’re picking colors and material lines.

We build TimberTech decks across the full Austin metro, including urban neighborhoods like Hyde Park, Mueller, and Travis Heights, along with larger-lot suburbs like Steiner Ranch. TimberTech pairs well with aluminum and composite railing systems for a completely low-maintenance assembly that won’t need refinishing for the life of the deck.

Soil conditions matter as much as the surface material. Austin’s clay swells and shrinks dramatically across seasons, so footing depth and substructure quality determine whether the deck stays level over time. We drill to refusal or 36 inches and we use treated lumber rated for ground contact on every framing component.

TimberTech Deck Installation FAQs

Most TimberTech decks take five to eight weeks from signed contract to final walk-through. The timeline includes design finalization, permit coordination, material lead time (typically two to three weeks for AZEK and standard composite colors), framing, surface install, and railing. Larger multi-level builds run nine to twelve weeks. Our typical installation timeline documents each phase.

Installed to TimberTech’s requirements, these boards are built to last for many years with only regular cleaning. AZEK Advanced PVC carries a lifetime limited warranty on residential applications, and the boards have no organic content that can rot. TimberTech boards are backed by TimberTech’s manufacturer warranty, which varies by line, and we’ll walk you through the terms for the boards you choose. Real-world performance routinely exceeds those numbers when the substructure’s built with treated lumber and proper flashing.

AZEK runs cooler underfoot than most capped composites, including Trex, in direct sun. The difference is noticeable on south-facing decks and around pools where bare feet are common. AZEK also moves more with temperature change, which is why end-gap calculation at install matters so much. Trex composite is still an excellent product, but for heat-sensitive applications AZEK’s often the better fit for Austin.

AZEK is full PVC with no wood content. TimberTech Composite is capped polymer over a wood-composite core. PVC’s more dimensionally stable, runs cooler, and carries a stronger warranty. Composite has a deeper grain look in some cases and costs less. Both are excellent products. The pick comes down to budget and how much heat performance matters for your specific deck location.

Yes, hidden fasteners are standard on every TimberTech install we do. We use CONCEALoc or compatible systems that fit the grooved edges of TimberTech boards. Color-matched screws are used on perimeter boards, stair treads, and any structurally critical locations. The result is a clean field with no visible fastener heads, and the same install is what registers the warranty correctly with TimberTech.

Most Austin TimberTech deck builds require a permit, especially attached decks or any deck above 30 inches off grade. Our trusted third-party permit partners handle the City of Austin submission, plan review, and inspection scheduling. We pass through actual permit fees with no markup and we keep you informed at each inspection milestone.
